Exploring Atlassian Intelligence Substitutions

Atlassian Intelligence was announced in April 2023 as a virtual teammate that uses artificial intelligence (AI)🤖 and machine learning (ML)🧠 to integrate into Atlassian’s cloud-based products. This new tool promises to accelerate work by many useful features and there is a lot of excitement around it🚀.

Despite the excitement surrounding its announcement, Atlassian Intelligence is still not available to the general public and is currently only available in early access🔒. But if you are looking forward to it just as we do, do not despair. Many of its functions can be replaced by third-party apps from the Atlassian Marketplace💻. These apps provide similar functionality and can help organizations work more effectively. In this article, we’ll walk you through every announced Atlassian Intelligence feature and its possible substitution.

Virtual Assistant

One of the features of Atlassian Intelligence is a Virtual assistant👩‍💼. For your convenience, the assistant is built-in directly to Slack or Microsoft Teams and you can get immediate answers to different kinds of questions or you can use it as customer support📞. It is using the organization’s IT processes, tools, knowledge base articles, FAQs, and onboarding guide to answer the following questions:

  • Answer customer questions about products, services, or policies.
  • Resolve customer issues, such as password resets or account activations.
  • Provide support for products or services.
  • Collect customer feedback📝.

Replacement: HelpDesk+ AI Powered Slack Support

Almost exactly the same features has the application HelpDesk+ AI Powered Slack Support on Atlassian Marketplace.

Text to JQL or SQL

Another Atlassian Intelligence feature is converting natural language queries into JQL or SQL🔍. You can quickly and easily search for issues by asking AI in a natural language instead of coming up with complex queries. This makes it easier for teams to find the information they need, when they need it, without having to spend time learning complex query languages. From our point of view, this is one of the most useful features of Atlassian Intelligence.

Replacement: JAI – Jira AI Autocomplete

This feature has also a third-party replacement on Atlassian Marketplace. But we strongly recommend carefully controlling every code this application produces. Let’s see if the native Atlassian JQL generator will be better.

Summarizing Confluence page

Another useful feature of Atlassian Intelligence is summarizing large volumes of text like meeting transcripts and pointing out the most important decisions and actions that were agreed upon🤝.

Replacement: AI Summary+ for Confluence

This feature can be conveniently replaced by AI Summary+ for Confluence. This application is easy to use and gives reliable results. The advantage of Atlassian Intelligence could be the fact that you can specify what exactly you want to summarize, meanwhile, AI Summary+ for Confluence summarizes the whole text.

Summarizing Ticket information

Another very useful feature of Atlassian Intelligence is summarizing all the ticket information including descriptions, comments, troubleshooting articles, and more. This can be a game-changer in your productivity and can save you a ton of time⏰.

Replacement: GPT Insights for Jira

In this case, we must admit that on paper this feature from Atlassian Intelligence looks extremely good and we cannot find a third-party application that would completely replace this feature, but GPT Insights for Jira is pretty close. Unfortunately, this application requires an additional subscription to Chat GPT Plus to use it.

Generating tables and other elements

In Jira Software, you can ask Atlassian Intelligence to generate a piece of work for you. Atlassian Intelligence has access to the full power of the editor. It’s enabling the creation of instant rich content including tables📊, emojis😊, and smart links🔗, not just generating plain text.

Replacement: AI Macros+ for Confluence

This Atlassian Marketplace application replaces almost every aspect of this feature. The major throwback is that it is only usable in Confluence, while Atlassian Intelligence is also usable in Jira.

Generate content

Users can ask Atlassian Intelligence to generate a list of potential product names📝, write an article or blog post about a new feature📰, improve the writing✍️, fix the spelling and grammar📚, or translate the reply to another language🌐. This feature can save a lot of time for content creators or for your company’s propagation. One of the advantages is you can refer to specific Confluence pages.

Replacement: AI ChatGPT for Confluence

This feature can be partially replaced by AI ChatGPT for Confluence, but not completely. In Atlassian Intelligence you can choose a source for the generated content and it should have general knowledge about your project, so it should generate more relevant content.

Change the sentiment of a text

One of the most interesting capabilities of Atlassian intelligence is its ability to change the sentiment of a text😊😠. This means that Atlassian intelligence can adjust the way it communicates with users, depending on the context of the conversation. You can change the tone of a comment, make it shorter, or longer, or improve the writing. As far as we know, there is no similar third-party application on Atlassian Marketplace. On the other hand, it can be replaced by ordinary Chat GPT or similar services.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Atlassian Intelligence is a promising new tool that uses AI🤖 and ML🧠 to integrate into Atlassian’s cloud-based products and accelerate work. While it is currently only available in early access🔒, many of its features can be substituted by third-party apps from the Atlassian Marketplace💻.

These apps provide similar functionality and can help organizations work more effectively💪. From virtual assistants to summarizing Confluence pages and ticket information, there are many options available to help teams work more efficiently. However, it remains to be seen if the native Atlassian Intelligence features will outperform their third-party counterparts🚀.
